Brunswick Railroad Museum version 6

by RLMoss
Brunswick Railroad Museum version 6 by RLMoss
Title: Brunswick Railroad Museum (v.6)
URL: http://www.brrm.net
Year design completed: 2007
Year replaced: Still live

My first and longest running web design 'stint' was volunteer web design services for the Brunswick Potomac Foundation. I was a general volunteer at the museum and the only one willing to take on the project even though I was still only in middle school at the time. With a little help from a family friend and Netscape Composer I taught myself HTML and standard practices and advanced the museum's web presence.

Before I took over the designing in 2002, the museum had a two-page mini-site on the local high school server which hat later been moved to a paid server space but remained mostly unchanged. This outdated site didn't even have tables. In various attempts, including Version 5 which I have also uploaded, I experimented with tables and JavaScript menus to allow for a more dynamic experience.

For version 6 however, with the help of a programmer friend of mine from Australia, I left the rigid world of plain HTML and integrated basic PHP functions, CSS, and Includes. This was a whole new website, a whole new feel, and was accepted as better than the previous versions.

It still is in use, though my content and photograph credit was [quite rudly] wiped from the live site after I left the organization in early 2008. When I left there were some discussions on replacing it with a more plain black and white based site so time will tell how long it remains a live design.

I have never received or requested any payment for my web services to the museum.
